Printednotice of the 2nd annual picnic of “the incorporated WINCHESTER PLEASURE CLUB” to beheld at BERGMAN’SGROVE in RIVERSIDE, ILL. on July25, 1908, with “Music by Cody / Tickets 25 cents”. Printed in black on red,moderate weight card stock, about 4-1/4 x 2-3/4 inches; credit and union “slug”of printer Charles W.Lehmann on Blue Island Avenue at foot. Onthe back are printed the lyrics of a then-popular song, “Whose Little Girl AreYou?”.


Fred Bergman wasthe original proprietor of BERGMAN’S GROVE, apopular, tree-shaded private park and picnic spot along the banks of the Des Plaines River. It was in operation at leastthrough the late 1940’s; a mention of an event at the park in the July 1902 Deaf Mutes’ Journal promised “dancing,bowling, boating, fishing and all kinds of games and races”. The WinchesterPleasure Club is apparently identical with the Winchester Athletic Club ofChicago, which received its “final certificate” of incorporation in December1907.


Internalhorizontal bends, slight spotting / fading, typical edge wear, but very goodfor an ephemeral item of this age and a nice memento of a bygone Riverside attraction!Condition as scan shows.
