Offeredfor your consideration hereis what isknown as a Gohonzon Buddhist scroll used in worship in various Nichiren Buddhist Sects. All the Nichiren sects of this Buddhism venerate the founder 13th century priest known as Nichiren Daishonin (Nichiren Shonin in some sects).

They focus their prayers towards the scroll and chant the words Nam Myoho Renge Kyo (some sects say Namu followed by Myoho Renge Kyo).

The scroll measures approx. 16.0 inches by 36.0 inches.

Thescroll offered here is dated 1622 and was issued by the Minobu Sect(Nichiren Shu) School branch of Nichiren Buddhism. The mandala is specifically dated to Commemorate the 400th year Anniversary of the founder Nichiren Shonin's Birth (February 16th, 1222).

It is in Good condition given its age,with some wrinkles, creases, some pin holes, minor stains, a few trimmings loose, main character area clear with all characters, overall a verybeautifulexample of a Gohonzon mandala given it's age of almost 395 years old.
