Re: Dachshund
kmarie, I just read your post about Critterbug. I personally have 3 long-haired dachshunds. My oldest, Noodles, (mostly called Moma's girl) ,will be 9 in August and in Jan. 2007 she ruptured a disc in her back. She couldn't even use either of her hind legs. I of course, took her to the vet, they kept her there and on steriiods for four days. Before I could get her in though, I read some disturbing things about some vets and their theories on doxies with ruputures ...they would put them down! I was appalled and beyond upset! Thank God I have a wonderful vet, after those four days, she called and said my girl would need back surgery and gave me a referral to the University of Ga vet hospital, and I had to go pick her up and take her directly there that day, that they were awaiting our arrival. I never cried so hard in my life looking into her sad little face, knowing this was major surgery and it may not even work. She looked so sad when I had to leave her. The doctors called me when she was out of surgery. Two days before I was allowed to pick her up the doctor told me she may not walk again, even if she did, she would never run again. I just wanted my baby back. The doctor made me promise to call him at 2 weeks home, and my vet could take out her staples. She was so excited to see me, as I was her. Within those two weeks many days she looked so sad, and frustrated with me for making her do physical therapy 4 times a day, but she finally did start to perk up. Today, not only can she walk, but yes, she can run. I know they put Critterbug on steriods, but the truth is he doesn't feel good, and really aren't we humans sad when we're hurt. Give him time and he will bounce back. If possible some great PT for him would be swimming. It really does help and it takes pressure off the spine while he streghtens his back muscles again. Good luck and please post and let us know how he's doing. Good luck and God Bless...Deej
