Pro-Pet Recall Expanded To Include More Than 50 Products

United Pet Group has expanded it's voluntary recall to over 50 products amid concerns of Salmonella poisoning.

United Pet Group of Cincinnati, Ohio, makers of Pro-Pet and other brand pet nutritional supplements, has extended last week’s recall of it’s Pro-Pet Adult Daily Vitamin Supplement tablets for dogs to include over 50 Pro-Pet and Excel branded products for dogs and cats, and certain other private-label brands of the same products. Private-label brands affected include "PETCO" and "Doctors Foster and Smith". The company says this recall is a result of "an abundance of caution" on it’s part, and that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is aware of this recall.

All of the affected products are in tabled or powdered form and are being removed from retail stores. Consumers should immediately stop using these products and contact United Pet Group at 1-877-399-5226 for further directions. The affected products are those with expiration dates that include and are between January 2013 and June 2013. All products with different expiration dates are not affected by this recall. The entire list of specific products affected can be found via United Pet Group’s website (below).

Salmonella can cause serious infections in dogs. Dogs with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Animals can be carriers with no visible symptoms and can potentially infect other animals of humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms you should contact your veterinarian.
