PetSafe Recalls 20,000 Power Adapters, Cites Fire Hazard

A manufacturer of heated pet beds has voluntarily recalled approximately 20,000 power adapters due to their risk of causing fire.

Radio Systems Corporation of Knoxville, Tennessee, has initiated a voluntary recall of the power adapters used with PetSafe? Heated Wellness Sleeper models PCU00-10911 (small), PCU00-10912 (medium) and PCU-10913 (large) after it received 3 reports that the power adaptor connectors melted, and the company has concluded that they present a risk of fire. The affected models were sold at pet specialty stores, catalog and online retailers from late 2006 through early 2010.

The company advises that consumers stop using these products immediately and contact their customer services department for instructions on how to receive a free replacement power adaptor. Radio Systems also urges any consumers who have experienced problems with their power adaptors to contact them. The affected Heated Wellness Sleeper models were produced with Hunter Green/Sand, Military Blue/Sand and Khaki/Sand covers and have a jacquard PetSafe logo stitched to the center front. The recalled power adaptors are identified by the markings "HON-KWANG", "PLUG IN CLASS 2 TRANSFORMER", "MODEL NO: K12-800" and have a spring coil covering the length of the electrical wire. Heated Wellness Sleepers with power adaptors without springs are not affected by this voluntary recall.
