Piggy I wasn’t refering to you..I will not sya you are wrong and you honestly can’t say I was wrong..I learned from people who were doing this for many many years and were open to new idea. I NEVER once had a problem witrh my girls or the males…not once with my huisbandry…Personally new ideas need to br brought to light not everything is set in stone..would I do this with a dog..NO, however I tended to notice that the girls liked having another one near by…not everyone is right and not everyone is wrong…If my mentors were "wrong" I’m sorry you feel that way but I had nothing but success with the method I used, If you don’t believe me fine..breeding mystice was accidental…and then I didn;t know better..when I learned what I was doing was wrong I stopped…I am sure you made your mistake too in the beginning…I just find it hard to belive that you still wish to condem me when she lived to be six!! And these things happened years ago. and if I ever bred again..I wouldn’t berred a girl over 10months, but I would not change my houseing practices for my females…if you want to PM me be my guest, but I have a huge problem..when everything thinks that there way is the only way it isn’t and things can and dp change.

If you wonder where I got my information..read my post again!!! I always house my females together and bred them at the same time so they delivered together. IN the UK that may not be normal, but this is how I was taught, so I am truly sorry if you don’t see that sometimes your way is not the only way I never had a problem with premature births, except once and ironically she was a female I house alone!! I had some of the best breeders ont he east coast giving me advice and they even saw my set ups..so if they didn’t have a problem I don’t think you would either. there are many different ways to succeed and back in my day was only 10 years ago.

favors I stopped breeding her. You have no right to call someone and idiot when you do not understand the whole story so please excuse me for seeking professional advice in that matter, I learned later I was wrong and so was the vet. everyone makes mistakes when they are learning and you have no right to criticize when it isn’t you in that situation. I hold the health and well being of my animals in the highest regueard even to the pint where they eat and I don’t!! or how about spending $2000.00 in vet billd in a month when I only make $1000 for a dog I knew was going to die?!?! Your high minded attitude is the reason people are afraid to even ask a question. If this is the way you treat people who have made mistakes in the past I hate to think what you would be like in person. Grow up..the past is over and I never made that mistake again. AMke sure you read everything before you both to open your keyboard and spew.

Pigatronic..do you understand that she was supposed to be sterile? and it was an accident? She lived a good long life of a cavy and even the vet was suprised that she was able to bred and give birth. She was at the beginning of my program, not intentionally done and since she was fine, the vet gave me the go ahead to continue to breed. So excuse me for following the advice of a trained professional. She id live to be six years old..which I thinks speaks well for her care. And Smiler don’t you dare tell me I have little reguard for the health or well being of my animals..I have almost lost my home twice paying vet bills for the one currently in may care!! And since you appartently can’t read..let me repeatmyself. I was told by a vet she was sterile..what would an s-ray prove? She was seen by a vet on several occasions. At the begining I did NOT have a mentor and since I got Mystic as a adult, I have no clue exactly hold old she was 2 is our best guess. She was not bred for show children. and since both of you are from the UK and I know cavies are much bigger pets there you may be ahead of what my vet knew at the time.Mytic died 5 years ago. So the subject is long over…you are being very self riteouts in your opinions and while you may be intitled to them, your rudeness is uncalled for. I at least asked the professional opinion of a licesed vet throughout her life and followed his reccomendations. Once I had a mentor and I realized that I wasn’t doing her any

Smiler..where do you get your information? Are you a breeder? It is common practice to have sows share a cage especially when they are bred or near ready to deliver. A cavie will nurse any baby that comes to her for the most part so it is consiered a good practice to aleways have two sows deliver close together. that way if one has too many baies and not enough milk the other sow can help. A sow breeding right after delivering wil not die!! That is just BS. with any pregnancy, there are risks and the risks do increase if bred too close together. I am sure I am not the only one who left a male in the cage too long and the sow delivered and was bred right away. It happens, even to seasoned veterens. Most of the people I learned from had been breeding for 15 or more years and rasing beautiful BIS cavies. I think they knew what they are doing

suer I never had an issue with my girls that didn’t breed…I guess I was lucky or maybe it was the breed I had..Mini rex I only saw one really nasty female and she belong to my mentor…he only kept her becuase she threw wonderful babies. Eventually he got tired of her … he had a working farm…’nough said

Yes she did well..Smiler did you not notice that I said she had seen a vet and we beleive she was sterile? This wasn’t planned. She was a very good mom and took care of other babies as well. and after four litter that produced some wonderful show animals, I retired her. She also starred in a few magic shows. I do not appreciate saying that I was irresponsible breeding her when it wasn’t planned, and since I was dealing with a vet and later a mentor and she lived to be six..I think I did well. there are expections to every rule and she happened to be one of them.

Just a thought, but is it possible that she is remarking a place where another dog or cat has had a accident? Most of my foster dogs had accidents when I first brought them into the house. it’s a little hard for them to adjust to the new schedule, rules and company. Definately check with a vet about a UTI, but this behavior should decrease if it is just nerves as she gets used to the new home.

I wouldn’t use any kind of blankets since he seems to chew on things, they is somthing out here in the states called yesterday’s new..it is a hard compacepted pellet bedding made of recycled newspaper. It stays dry and does blowaround and it is heavy enough not to get kicked too far from the cage and it won’t stick to the would. I’m sure there are other recycled paper products that may do the trick as well. I’m not sure about the tomatoes since I never gave them to my pigs, but kale is great since it has a high level of vitamin C in it.

depends…is it necessary b/c of a medical condition? Is she an only pet? Do you also have a male? I would rather see a male neutered since it is a less evasive surgery than spaying. Many thing need to be considered, talk to your vet for more options.

personally a penny can works better than a spray bottle, especially if you would ever have gim groomed or need to use a sunscreen or flea & bug spray. Then he would be afraid of the beneficial sprays.

Dandelion leaves are great for them…just make sure to clean everything before giving it to your pig. and while some plants are poisionous, I am sure you know what dandelion looks like. I am not in favor of letting them run freely outside, but in a pen they should be okay, just make sure there is nothing dangerouswhere your piggie van reach it.
