Hi,
I have two lovebirds named Zen and Aja. They are fairly young and I got them through a breeder. They have a wonderful cage. However, I let them out for flying time about once a week. I tried to hand tame them, but I didn’t have the time to put into it and I was not successful.
I know many of you will find this unethical but I have a terrible time getting them back into their cage. I tried to perch train them but they will ride for about 3 inches and then hop off. I was desperate and bought a net.Of course they think it’s a game when I try to catch them. It’s pretty difficult. Here is my fear. I caught one of my birds today, I think it was Zen(they look very much alike.)However,he wiggled his way free and for just a few seconds, as I realized what was happening, (they are fast) his little neck got caught between the edge of the net and the wall. My poor baby. I feel just horrible. He didn’t squawk or chirp as if he was in pain, he just wiggled free and of course I released him immediately. But it did seem to upset him. I am terrified that I’ve hurt my precious bird. They are both so sweet and I promise, I would never do anything to ever hurt them.
They have both been back in the cage now for at least a couple of hours. Aja is submissive and very quiet. Zen is dominant and pretty vocal. They are both unusually quiet right now and not snuggled close the way they usually are. I’ve been checking on both birds about every 20 minutes but they aren’t engaging in their usual chirping and playing. Zen is just sitting in one place. I am checking his eyes because I read that birds will squint when they are in pain.
Honestly, I didn’t think I was being rough with them. I try to calm them by talking to them softly even when I have to catch them. I don’t think the edge of the net was pressed hard against him. But I am still extremely worried. I know some of you will be upset with me and call me a moron, but I am genuinely loving with my birds, very gentle and compassionate.
How worried should I be? What should I do now? Can anyone ease my mind or give me constructive advice?

Hi again,
I noticed that several people have read my message,but I haven’t gotten any replies. I would really like some constructive feedback. Zen seems okay. I play some classical music for both of the birds and they loved it. They both chirped along. They are very quiet right now,but it’s dark outside and the room is very dim. Both of them seem to have bright eyes. I need some reassurance.
