    Hello-
We are looking for some help with a senior dog, who we love very much. Lucy is about 13 years old and recently started having geriatric seizures. We’ve been able to control the seizures with Phonobarbital, but this has seemingly triggered two things:
    1) hunger – she wants to be fed about 8 times a day
    2) every night, when we go to bed, she starts barking and doesn’t let us sleep.
    We’ve tried everything:
    feeding her before bed
    sleeping with the lights on
    taking her outside
putting her on the bed or in her own bed
putting her in a different room
Nothing has worked and we need some sleep. Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

Hi, I understand your dog has only started barking at night since starting his medication. Do you give it to him in the evening? Could that be the reason for his barking?
Is there something in the medication that perhaps makes him feel disoriented?
Have you spoken to your vet?
Let me know and perhaps I can help you.

yes, we have talked to the vet and they haven’t been any help. the medication is prescribed to be given twice a day, so it’s hard to avoid giving it to her in the evening.

I really want to help, but of course it’s difficult like this.
Did she only start barking once she started taking this medication?
Have you asked your vet if it could cause some kind of disorientation?
What has changed from the time when she was fine at night, to when she started barking? Did something scare her? Did her routine change?
    Let me know.
