I need advice for a verry agressive love bird – Pet Care Information, Resources & Supplies

HELP! I just recentley perchased a peach face love bird from a yard sale. She is about 5 years old and verry agrssive. I cant even bump into her cage on accedent with out her charging twards me let alone put my hand inside her cage. When i give her fresh food and water she emediatly runs to her dishes and attacks tem half the time dumping her food and water. I decited to let her out of her cage thing she woul be warmer outside of her taratory and she did warm up a bit she flew and landed on my shoulder but when i tryed to put her back in her cage she attacked my arm leaving me bleeding and left bruses. What do I do? Her previous owners said she was friendley and that she could talk. But I dont think they really ever handled her at all. Is it to late for me to tame her concidering her age? And what is makeing her be so agressive?

It’s the new environment. Give her time to adjust to the new environment.Also despite the name of Lovebird they can be temperamental. As for talking, lovebirds rarely talk. They have the ability to speak but for some reason they choose not to speak. The time to teach them to talk is between 2-5 mos old. As for taming her, it will be more difficult to tame an older bird, but it can be done with time and patience. I don’t own a lovebird. The advise I just gave is from what I learned on other parrot forums and from experience as adopting a 7 old Cockatiel.

Some of the only advice i can give is to most definitely NOT be violent in any way to your bird. do NOT tap it on the head or yell at it or anything else like that when it bites you. Doing so will only make it bite and attack you even more. Instead, take a gentle approach and give the bird space. If it bites you, do a little mini ‘earthquake’ by moving your finger a little to get him/her to stop.
