My almost 15 year old Brittany (on July 2), Jack, is pacing about quite a bit. He is happy and seems fine, but I am wondering if this is part of his obvious dimentia or is it a sign that he is in pain? I've never been lucky enough to have s enior dog this age. Jack has had various health issues as he ages. Most recently, he has had two abscessed teeth pulled and started to sneeze blood at an increasing rate. We have him on Benadryl which seems to have alleviated the bloody sneezes for the most part. Any clues on the pacing and what this could mean would be greatful. I don't want him to be in pain! Thanks!

If he is eating, drinking and going to the bathroom in a normal fashion chances are the pacing is part of the dementia process. It would probably be a good idea, though, to have the vet check him just on the off chance he is in pain.
