I recently bought a 5 year old Diamond python from a guy who has had her since she was 8 weeks , she is beautiful healthy and eats well . She came with the tank that the other guy had her in . The last few days she has been pushing her nose against the cage enough to make her self bleed , could she be out growing the tank ? I take her out often , so she does get out often . I have kept snakes for twenty years but have not had an animal act like this before . Cheers.

I personally like to see snakes in tanks that they cannot touch opposite ends at the same time, if the tank is smaller than this it could be that she has out grown the tank.
However it could also be down to an increase in temperature, a new smell that she is trying to get to or because she is more active from you taking her out and exercising her that she is simply hungry.
I know this wont look pretty, but i think that if she is rubbing against the glass trying to get out that an easy solution would be for your to cover the glass with something such as black paper or even just masking tape. It is most likely that she doesnt understand the idea of it being glass and so by her seeing that it is something there she will stop rubbing against it in an attempt to get out of her tank.
If she is rubbing against other things in the tank she may not have shedded properly or may have some form of parasites, such as lice. Altough if it is just the glass then I dont think that is the cause.
I hope this helps and you can find out why she is doing this.

Thanks so much for yr reply , I believe it may actually be a combination of some of these things . I had covered the side of the tank where she has been rubbing with black cardboard and she ignores that spot now . I think she may be wanting to mate as well but my male is not old enough yet and he is in a tank right next to her . I have fed her so know its not food , I have decided to convert one of the spare bedrooms into a walk in tank . That should solve that problem once and for all . Again thanks for yr input , it was of a great help in re-affirming my suspicions . All the best.
