Your rabbit needs things to chew. Give him wooden sticks & rabbit toys, so he keeps away from the mats.
Call your vet, ask for an appointment with a Vet Technician who can teach you how to trim your rabbit's claws. They can show you & the vet isn't needed for this.
He's following you around because he's bonding to you & wants to play - that's what rabbits do in the morning. The nipping is to get your attention when you don't respond. He's kind of behaving like a puppy on this point, he wants his person to pay attention to him. If you don't have time to play in the morning, put him back in his hutch until you do. Make morning play a regular thing.

Awesome Advice,
I had no clue to what my rabbit needed until I did research. Your vet is the best option for showing you how to trim nails. I already new how to trim nails due to trimming animal and people nails.
Stay away from the quick.
always have cornstarch or stop quick found at your local pet store incase a quick in the nail is cut accidently.
Have patients, try handling your rabbit alot to get him or her use to being handled or esle your not going to be cutting nails.
Play time is very important to a rabbit and to the owner and family.
We all have three play periods through out the day.
One in the morning prior to the kids going to school.
One in the afternoon when the kids get home.
Then our rabbit is left out to rome freely in the families rabbit proof house.
make sure you cover all cords with a thick rubber to prevent injury, this is bought at your local hardware store less expensive.
As for mats, I would do the same buy wooden spoons, building blocks that are for kids are safe jus the right size too. They like baby toys, keys, rings that form together for flipping around, anything that rolls, before you know it your rabbit will be playing with you and handing the toys back and forth. I hope you enjoy your bunny as much as we do.
If you have any concerns and want to chat about it feel free..
My vet also said baby shampoo or baby wipes are the same exact thing as those sold in pet stores so don't waiste my money.
I have no problems using baby shampoo since is holds the same ph balances animals need.
Good Luck
