I had an 11 year old collie/husky mix named Abby that was in pretty good shape. The past 6 months(maybe a year, I've been at college so I've lost track of time) the only thing that was different was that she didnt seem to have the strength to jump into the back of a pickup like she had done for the past 10 years. She's been living with my grandmother the past 6 years so she definitely has not been abused. About a week or 2 before she died she started acting a little funny. She ate a couple dishes of catfood and the next day she seemed to not be feeling well. She didnt eat anything the whole day but she seemed to be back to herself after a day or two. The day before she died she had been out running around like usual. I stopped at my grandmothers to visit and as my grandmother met me at the door with the dog by her side the dog fell over. She got right back up and jogged over to see me and then her hind legs started to give out and she lost complete control of them and collapsed again. She was too weak to get up and was having a difficult time breathing. We kept trying to comfort her and she eventually got up and started walkin over to the end of the driveway. She went to the bathroom about 50 feet from where she had collapsed and then continued on about 25 feet before laying down. The side of her where her stomach is felt very hard and somewhat bloated. We wanted to get her back in the house so we talked her into gettin up and she jogged back to the house but was stumbling from side to side appearing as if she was drunk, she then collapsed again before getting up the steps. We ended up having to carry her in the house and layed her down inside. She never got up again and about 2-3 hours later she made a little rumble and attempted to go to the door before breathing her last breath. A little bit of red blood came out of her rear end. She was outside quite often running around so she could have got in to anything. She often visited the neighbor down the road. We live in a town of about 100 ppl spaced far apart so everyone lets their animals run loose. I am just wondering if anyone has an idea of what might have happened(heart attack, poisoning, stroke?) or at least maybe a better forum to address this issue. Thanks.......

i am very sorry for your lose. but you should have brought that dog into the vet to have tests done the moment u noticed something was wrong with her. when a dog acts differently then it normally does it means there is something wrong. and no one here can tell you what was wrong with your dog. you should take it to the vet and have the vet take a look and find out the cause of death. again very sorry for your lose but if you would have taken the dog in this might have been prevented.
