Absolutely devastated

This Friday, my mom and I are taking out 13 year old Siberian Husky, Tar-Heel to be put down. He has a brain tumor and neurological problems that have plagued him for way too long. He is our baby. He even looks like a white wolf. I am scared about taking him. It has not even happened yet and I am a wreck. ON top of that my birthday is the day before and then there is Mother's Day. HArd to celebrate either one when one of your kids will be dead soon. I know he is on his way to heaven and will meet up with our other lost pets. Just thought I would write on a forum and try to express my feelings amongst others who know what I am going through. I just don't know what I am going to do that Saturday morning and wake up and he is not there. Absolute torture for me and my family. I know it takes time to heal painful wounds, but it is still hard and difficult to bear. Thanks for reading.

We recently lost one of our dogs unexpectedly and rather violently so I understand what you are going through. Although we only had her for a short period of time nothing will ever replace the wonderful dog that she was.
   
If you were to pass on (heaven forbid!) would you want your dog to be sad for you? Or would you want your dog to celebrate you and the life that the two of you got to share together? It may seem like a strange way to look at it but I know that I would not (and do not!) want anyone I love - this includes my pets, to mourn me sadly! I want them to remember the joy and life that I brought them in my days on this earth and I know that your dog will want you to do the same.
   
Dogs are very wise, and very knowing creatures. They aren't given as much time on this earth as people are because they don't need it. They never hold a grudge that takes time to forget, they never judge us or need to "learn" how to love. They do all of it naturally and love us unconditionally and all they ask is that we do the same in return.
   
It sounds to me like you have done that and more.
   
It will be very hard to try and live your life without your best friend but there will come a day when it will be a bit easier, and then a bit easier after that. And that doesn't mean that you are forgetting them - to me it means that you are learning to live a little bit more like they did - with unblemished appreciation for everyday that you are given. And remember that your dog will always be with you in spirit no matter what.
   
Loving something or someone means doing what is BEST for them no matter how hard it is. You can make it through this and will be a better person (with one extra special guardian angel) after it.
