Hi there. I posted here back in April right after the loss of my dog, Casey. Well, we've now lost our 8-1/2 year old Golden, Lulu.....just 9 months later. We've had dogs for the last 10 years, my house is very quiet.

I'm not sure if I'll ever get another dog. This has been a terrible year for us.

I'm curious to know from those of you that have lost pets before...have you gotten another pet? If so, how long did you wait?

Thanks!

I had 2 rabbits, I let them have the whole back yard, the back yard was bunny proofed. one day we got a notice in the mail that they were going to put gopher poison in the back yards of the housing so we put the rabbits up, the gopher guy came and we talked to him and asked all about the poison, he told us that it wouldnt harm rabbits(i did not believe that) and that the poison would be ineffective after it gets wet and that it stops working after 3 months, so we waited for almost a year it rained 9 times and then let them back into the yard, 2 days later, Arya was dying from gopher poison. i was heart broken, i kept my other rabbit for a few months later but later i ended up in the hospital and my room mate had no idea where i was, i was gone for a month and did not have the capability to speak well(Seizure). when i finally came to sanity it was almost 2 and a half months later, i went back and she had givin my rabbit to the shelter and was long gone, tried every shelter and could not find her, I swore i would never get another rabbit. a year and a half later i was online and saw a link for a rabbit rescue and saw 2 little bunny brothers in a shelter that had been dumped in a shoe box at a park, i brought them home the same day i saw them on the internet. just go online and look at shelters in your area and veiw animals up for adoption, if you feel your ready you will know. i came accross mine by accident and i dont regret it. you will know if you look and see them, if your not ready then wait.

a Nurse at the hospital told me this when i was freaking out about my job, friends, family and pets.

I have had a succession of cats for the last 30 years, without a break (with the exception of the 6 months between the 2 cats I have had for the last 8 days & the cat that died 7 months ago). (But I had gotten a dog a couple of months before Basil died.)

I make a point of never being without a furry mammal-class pet in the house.

With pets, the best comfort for grief is another little fuzzy thing that needs your help & support. Right away.

It doesn't lessen the late pet's value. It just adds to your memories of wonderful pets you've had.
