A friend (we'll call her Rhonda) invited me and my boyfriend over to meet her new dog, Bud Light; an Airedale-Hound mix. The instant that I saw her I fell in love with her. She is around 4 months old and was living in a very sad situation. The house was a mess, the dog left messes everywhere, and Rhonda didn't bother to pick up after her. Rhonda tried to teach the dog a few things but I think that the only thing that she succeeded in was teaching the dog to fear a fist. I asked if I could take her off Rhonda's hands, and she replied "take her". Something that really made me mad was when i was about to leave Rhonda decided it would be a good idea to let the dog drink some whiskey. Telling her politely not to, i found out minutes later that she had allowed the dog to drink more. After telling Rhonda to knock it the eff off me and my boyfriend left with the dog and everything that we remembered to grab.
The dogs new name is Lola, and if you have any helpful hints on how to potty train her or anything else it would be greatly appreciated.

I would take the dog to a vet to be checked out first of all, and then I would crate train the dog. This should help with the soiling and will help her to feel more safe and at ease, because she will have her own "den". As a rule dogs do not soil in their own crates, if they are the proper size. You can then begin to train her to go out side on a schedule.
Thank you for rescuing the dof and your friend from this situation. And good luck!

Interestingly... you don't train the dog, till you train the owner first.
First, BRAVO for you for taking the puppy. This is awesome.
Next, go to Petco or any pet store and get a training book.
The one, Puppy training for Dummies is awesome. I just googled on the web, how to potty train a puppy and got all kinds of terrific information. I printed out and followed the suggestions and my puppy was trained within 5 days. I put a low hanging bell on the front door and rubbed his little nose on it, before we went out.
Now he rings the bell whenever he wants to go out.
Not to brag....(but it's hard not to) go to the webiste link and read about Carlo.
How blessed your are to have this puppy in your life.
