horse ankle wounds

My horse has a huge gash on her ankle and im scared it gonna get infected. i already but some wound spry on it but im scared its gonna wash off when she crosses the creek to get to the main pasture. What would be a good way to get her cut coved that isn't gonna cost a whole whole bunch of money?
