Great advice, thank you. I agree about not buying into the hype of "healthy" food you see on t.v.. After reading the label on Beneful I couldn't believe they make it sound so nutritious. It is a corn based food (the first sign of poor quality) and the only dog food I have seen that uses sugar. It also has a nasty chemical smell to it. I've been meaning to write to them and suggest they call it Pitiful instead.

We used to have a member here who created his own website rating dry dog foods. He did an excellent job and since he lists all their ingredients it is easy to compare the different brands. The website is bestdrydogfoods.bravehost.com.

I don't think most vets are taught the importance of a good diet and will often recommend poor quality corn based dog food. I have had a few vets tell me the type of food isn't important.

As someone who has read a ton of information on nutrition I can tell you that you do not need to worry about much vitamin C your dog is getting. The only three mammals that do not produce their own vitamin C are guinna pigs, monkeys and humans.
