dog can't hear

my dog is 13 years old and this last week will not respond to us calling him or even talking tohim is he all of a sudden deaf?

He could be. Take him to the vet & see if the dog can be tested. Many dogs go deaf in old age, they're a lot like humans.
   
You can do a home test. Have someone hold the dog with his back to you. Stand quietly while the other person gets the dog's attention. Clap loudly behind the dog's head. Then call him loudly. Also blow a whistle behind him. See what he reacts to.
   
If he is deaf:
   
He may be deaf to lower tones but not higher tones (the whistle). If he can hear the whistle but not the clap or your voice, you can blow the whistle to get his attention, then signal him with your hand.
   
You can also pound on the floor, causing vibrations, to get his attention.

Yes we tested him and no response...He seems in good spirits when I came home he chased his toy and played keep away just like usual. He just doesn't respond when we clap and talk to him he usually is quite verbal when we ask him questions. Thanks for replying...
