I have a 9 month old pitbull/bullmastiff female that weighs 70lbs. She has a red rash thats raised on her chest, no puss and not raw. Its similar to chicken pox, but only on her chest. Symptoms started 5 days ago with a few light red spots on chest and now her chest is covered. She feels hotter than normal, but I dont know what a dogs temperature should be. We take her on daily walks in highly wooded areas and local ponds that have native ducks, geese, frogs, and toads. I cannot find any ticks on her, she is current on shots and doesnt seem to feel sick. We recently moved from Ca to Pa. She is on a lamb and rice diet, since two of my other dogs have skin problems. Prior to this she has been healthy with no abnormal behavior. I plan on taking her to the vet this week if the rash gets any worse.

A large dogs temp chould be 99-102 give or take a few pionts. Is sounds like your dogs chest has rubbed on something that caused a topical allergic reaction. Keep the area clean with a betadine and water mixture or hydrogen pyroxide and water mixture, dry with towel and you can put gold bond medicated powder on the area. Your dog should be bathed after every trip to the woods. Make sure all the shampoo is rinsed under arm pits and belly area. If not the area will get worse. good luck! If it is itchy, you can put a little cortisone cream or give a benadryl until itching stops.

Thank you. Washing her that frequently wont hurt her will it? I think the rash is from the water in the pond that she loves to run into so Im keeping her from that until I can determine whats causing this.
