I have a 3 year old male dog. He has been completely healthy up until about a year and a half ago. He developed what the Vet said was allergies. He licks his paws until they bleed, he gets a rash under his "armpit" area on all four legs, his eyes get swollen, and he stops eating/drinking. When he has a flair up, he ends up with a yeast infection-he just smells awful. I have no idea what to do with him and I feel bad for him. He is on ketoconazole and benedryl currently and has been for sometime. He licks his feet almost nonstop- I have tried to put socks on them or cover them and he just chews that off. I am wondering if there is anything else that could be wrong and what else I can do for him. We had him tested for red mange and have switched his food many times to rule our food allergies, but nothing is working.

to help right now get the gold bond medicated powder and put that under the armpits to dry them out. The paws try soaking them in a 1/2 hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 water and dry them daily. I bet the atacking of the paws is now a habit weather they bother him or not. Keep baby wipes next to the door so after he gois out for walks or outside you can wipe the paws for allergens and dirt. Now, what food are you feeding now? Some dogs are allergic to wheat and corn and the food at the vets offices can contain alot of that. What treats are you feeding? You can buy fish oil caps from the drugstore or healthfood store(make sure it doesn't have ethenol in the ingredients though some do) depending on your dogs size supplement those. That helps(in the long run) with skin quality and immune system. You can add plain yogurt to his food also and that helps keep yeast infections away. I know this sounds like alot but once you get it under control and keep up the supplements, you will see a great improvement. All the meds are doing is masking the problem. I know I have had golden retrievers all my life and they have horible allergies. Good luck and holler with anyother questions.
