In its first-ever pet food assessment, GoodGuide rated an array of pet foods on nutritional performance, caloric content, life-stage specificity and desirability of ingredients. Hill’s Science Diet® pet food was named number one in each of the four categories: dry and wet pet food for dogs and dry and wet pet food for cats.

“We are honored that GoodGuide.com has recognized Hill’s and our extensive commitment to producing precisely-balanced nutrition for pets. As the global leader in pet nutrition, our unrivaled devotion to healthy, happy pets drives everything we do,” said Kostas Kontopanos, President, Hill’s U.S. “This latest assessment on pet foods highlights the importance of precisely balanced nutrition and will be sure to assist pet owners in choosing the right food to suit their pets’ unique needs.”

GoodGuide also recommends for pet owners to look for brands that test their foods in accordance with feeding trials established by AAFCO, the Association of American Feed Control Officials. These procedures guarantee that the pet food’s nutrient claims are supported by feeding tests with animals, not just formulation. GoodGuide also cautions that the required “Guaranteed Analysis” box on pet food packaging should not be used to inform any decisions about the nutritional quality of the food. Only the full nutrient profile can provide a detailed and meaningful assessment of what a pet food contains.
