Take her to the vet. Have her weight evaluated. Find out if she's just fat from overeating or has a condition that makes her heavy.
If she's not sick, feed her diet food ("light" or "lite" food). Ask the vet how much she should have, & should she be on a special diet food or can you use one from the pet store.
Don't feed her too many treats.
What kind of dog/how tall or big is she? This will decide how much to feed the dog.
I think the directions they put on the cans is more than any dog should have. I feed my dog far less than the packages say, but he's in great shape.
I have a dog who's about 2 feet tall & is half Jack Russell & half American Foxhound, who weighs about 40-45 lbs, which is about right for his size (he's the size of the Foxhound half). His regular meals are: About a half cup of dry light dog kibble & 1/3 of a can of dog food for each mal. This keeps his weight steady. He also gets vitamins & 1 or 2 snacks per day.
Exercise your dog more, & walk her longer or more often. He should have at least three 20 to 30 minute brisk walks a day - you want her panting a little by the time you get home, that way, you know she's actually gotten some aerobic exercise.
You can take her to the dog park or join a dog MeetUp group so she can run around off his leash. MeetUp has a zip code & subject search function.
