It seems like when I see what animals are in shelters, there are both mixes and pure. I just hate the thought that animals have to die because there aren't enough homes. It just doesn't seem right to me to produce more babies when we as a society can't care for the ones already here.

Thank you RK. That is exatly what I am trying to get across...A puppy is a puupy..who cares where it came from? shelter or pet breeder? What's the difference? any puppy or daog can develope a problem at any time..look at loki...20 years experience breeding APBT and the breeder NEVER had a dog die from cancer!!! And I knew the lineage since she had paper for all the dogs she had, and still he got sick....it's not eliteism b/c I see no reason to create more mixed breed dogs and I hate that people see the need to create mixes and designer "breeds" that are just taking people for a ride. ALL of these kind of dags can be found in your local shelter...mixes and pure breeds alike. Puppymomma...did you watch that video? How can you want to continue to breed these dogs?

Yeah, but obviously the problem isn't "not enough homes" so much as the problem is "not enough people want shelter dogs." That's the sad truth -- there are people who would just not HAVE a dog if they couldn't get a puppy from a breeder. I'm not condoning that, I'm just saying that for that reason, puppies from breeders aren't really taking homes from shelter dogs. Now, I do STRONGLY agree that we should try to educate those people on the benefits of rescued pets, and make them understand that these are not damaged animals -- like I said, my smartest, happiest dog is from the SPCA. But in the longrun, there will still be people who want to know the lineage of their dog, or who don't trust dogs who they think have been traumatized. For those people, there is nothing wrong with breeding good, healthy puppies.
