It depends on the dog & the environments.
If the dog really loved somebody in the earlier home - more than anyone else - he may be upset & sad, & miss that person a lot. This can make him somewhat depressed because he'll feel abandoned.
If the dog didn't really love anyone, & the new owner shows how much they love the dog, the dog will eventually return the attention with loyalty & affection.
If the dog always liked a lot of people & made friends easily, it may be easier for him to get used to having a new owner.
If the dog was very scared or abused in the old home, it can take months or more for the dog to feel like the new people won't yell at him or hurt him.
If the earlier environment had a lot of noisy, yelling people in it, & people yelled at him a lot, he may be afraid of loud voices & shouts.
If the earlier environment was very quiet, & his new home has a lot of noise in it, he may feel nervous because he's not used to that much noise & talking, even if it's happy noise of a large family.
That's some of the things to consider.
How fast the dog adapts to the new home depends on the dog & all these circumstances.
If you'd like to ask some more specific questions, maybe I can help. Is there anything else you need to know?
Did you adopt a dog, or take a dog from someone who couldn't keep it any more? Tell me about it.
