Voluntarily I recently brought home a stray dog. I believe she is about a year old & is a Jack Russell/Beagle mix by looking at her but who really knows what she might be! She is super sweet & has a bit of anxiety. The first few nights she barked & ripped things apart. I had put in her a crate but she hated it & basically broke it open to get out. So I could no longer keep her locked in the crate. Then I was keeping her in my garage with some blankets for a bed, but she was still having issues at night (barking, tearing down curtains, scratching at the doors). Finally I decided to fix a really comfy bed in her crate, prop the crate door open & cover the crate with a blanket so she might feel like she has a safe hide away. She automatically went in the crate & loves to sleep in there now. She goes into the crate voluntarily, where before she would try & sneak out the door when I would be leaving the garage & bark & freak out. Now at bedtime she goes & lies in her crate & doesn't even chase after me trying to get out. The question that I have is...When I put her to bed, I will sit next to her crate while she gets comfy & ready for bed in her crate. She will move around her blankets, getting them the way she wants them & while she does this she stops & urinates in different places on the blankets in the crate, then she lays down on the partially urine covered blankets & goes to sleep. She spends plenty of time outside & uses the potty outside, the crate is the perfect size for her...It's almost as if she is just marking the blankets & crate as her territory?? But I have never seen a dog do it quite this way. I have seen them adjust their blankets. I have a Chihuahua/Rat Terrier mix that will squat & pee on my bed & hers when I am not looking, but never seen a dog do it in front of my face & as part of her nightly bedtime routine? Is she just marking her territory in her new home?

I have a mix pup and when he was small he would lay down and try to go to sleep and pee. we thought this was the strangest thing for a dog to lay down and pee and not get up. we just stop letting him drink anything 2hour before bedtime and when he would do this we would take him out and tell him no and put him outside. you may want to try putting towels in there insted of a blanket the blanket my smell like your other dog. and a towel will smell more like you. hope this helps
