My dog is 4 years old for the last year he has destroyed or eaten 7 of my bed comforters. He does this when I have to lock him up when little kids are here. Other times he leaves my comforters alone why is he doing this? Is he lacking something? He was my deceased husbands dog that we got 2 days before my husband past away 4 years ago so he became my dog and protector. Help I've tried everything.

If he's alone a lot during the day, it may be boredom.
For a start, close your bedroom door to protect the comforters when you're gone, until the problem is solved.
When (if) you catch him chewing the comforters, punish him however you normally do for bad behavior. Be firm: be the pack leader, you're supposed to run the place.
Give him chew bones regularly to give him something else to chew. They may be more fun than the comforters.
But I think you should consult a vet, because the fact that it just started a year ago & isn't a life-long thing, could mean he's got some kind of medical condition that's causing this behavior.
After medical's been eliminated, then you move on to mood & company. Have you considered getting another dog, so he's not alone during the day? That may solve the problem - he won't be bored any more.
