I have 5 yr old female dog who my family adopted 3 years ago. She is a Katrina Survivor. I am a teacher and have always taught summer school. This summer I am not teaching and my dog's behavior has become different. She runs upstairs to my room if I open or close the front door (the main door used). the closet door and the when the baby gate is moved to get from one room to another she also runs up the stairs. I have been feeding her at the regular times, breakfast and dinner, however she is not eating at all or waiting until someother time of the day (the food sits out during the day). In addition, she usually lays around anywhere in the house, now she lays at my feet or near my seat or in my bedroom in the dark.

Has all of this happened because her schedule has changed with me going in and out of the house, not gone all day. Should I take her to doggy daycare she knows 1 day a weeek? I do take her to the dog park and she loves it. Thank you for your help.

Yes she is probably wondering what is going on. Now she doesn't know when you are leaving and when you are going to be home. When you left to teach did she eat right away? or when you were gone? I think you should try to have a walk schedule and stick to that besides the feeding schedul. She will get used to that and calm down a little. Has it been raining alot there? (like it has been here in florida...everyday all day for the past two weeks!?)I would try to enjoy the pup at the dog park and walks a few tines a week. try to make it around the same time every day. This routine change has thrown off your baby and with the trauma she had gone through with the huricane I think she is just having trouble adjusting...again. hehe good luck!
