Go on Petfinder.com and put in your zip code & check the "cats" option. This will give you the closest private adoption groups that may be able to help you place the cats. The list will be in order of closest to farthest away group. These private groups are always no-kill and will foster any of the extra cats you have to give up. Contact them, see if they can help.
I'd recommend that in choosing the cats to keep, you should consider that the older cats may not adapt as well to a new home; younger cats do pretty well in new homes; if there's a very independent cat, you may matter less to him than he matters to you, so he may be a good candidate.
Cats that need ongoing care for a chronic condition will be the hardest to place.
