My 8yr old cat recently has lost a lot of weight, became constipated, and developed a terrible smell that seems to come from her saliva. There seemed to have been puss in her mouth and some mucous that was very heavy in one of her eyes. The mucous and puss seem to have stopped but the smell in her mouth is still there.

When she cleans herself, her fur smells like that as well as anything she lays on. She seems to avoid eating the hard food that she used to eat as well as stopped drinking water. I finally got her to start eating last week but now she only eats tuna, she has began drinking water again.

I had some antibiotics from my moms cats a couple months ago and that seems to have stopped the mucous and puss.

I seemed to have solved the constipation by giving her milk for a couple days.... She's been gaining weight since I started feeding her tuna. She had also been using the hallway and corners of the house instead of the litter box.

Unfortunatly I can't afford to take her to the vet due to a $1500 bill between another cat and my car last week... of course everything has to happen at once.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is going on with this smell and what I should do????

The black kitty in the 1st pic is the one that is sick... photo is a little dark, she is next to my black and white kitty. You can see her glowing yellow eyes. The Norweigian forest cat in the second pic is the one that just had emergency surg.

An update on my kitty. She seems to be somewhat disoriented at times and seems to almost completely refuse to eat or drink. I finally was able to check her mouth again and her gums have turned black and are bleeding and seem to be producing at least some of the puss. I took her out of the little house I had set up and she seemed to perk up a little but has no energy. She is quickly reducing to skin and bones, she also seems to rarely acknowledge me anymore.

When I picked her up today, she usually attempts to squirm out of my arms but she could only reach one paw out. Unfortunatly I am going to take her in tomarrow and most likely put her to rest.

She's had one of the best lives a cat can have and it's hard to do but I would be surprised if she made it to the end of the week.

It's been a rough day. I had to put her to rest today as well as find out that Stormy had FIV. Unfortunatly my other two cats have been exposed this whole time and they are going to be tested tomarrow. I am praying that they don't have it, I really don't want them to suffer like this too.
