I have a kitten that I got from a lady on my street because I felt so sorry for it. It was covered in fleas and looks like it has an eye infection. I've been giving it some amoxicillin that my vet gave my other cat (1/4 of the dropper that came with the bottle)He is acting better, playing, running around, eating more and going to the potty, but his eyes are still mated and watery. I am on a very limited budget and can not afford a vet visit right now. What else can I do?

This is probably an upper resperatory(sp) infection and will need enough antibiotic to last 10 days twice a day. You need to get a cotton ball soaked in cool water and wipe the eyes out twice a day also. Use seperate ones for each eye and wash your hands afterwards. Once a kitten gets such a bad case of uri, this will probably come back from time to time and you will need to get more antibiotics. If the eyes don't get better in a few days then it could of caused conjunctivitis and could cause blindness if you don't get to the vets. You should also have the kitten seperate from any other cats. Both of these illnesses are very contagious. You can even spread it by touching the kitten then touching your other cat(s).

Thank you for your response. I did end up taking him to the vet and he gave us a gel to put in his eyes 3 times a day. The watering has stopped and he looks better but now it looks like their is a glaze over his eye. I am taking him to the vet again tomorrow (he is not in today) A friend has another kitten from this same litter and he is blind in one eye because of this same illness. What can I do to report this lady without someone putting all of her cats down? I realize it maybe too late for some but it breaks my heart!
