I rescued a kitten from the pound last week. I estimate that he is about 3 weeks old. I've never needed to take care of a cat so that is so young. I still have to make him to poop and pee myself, even though he has started going on his own a little too. I got a bottle and formula and he has been eating REALLY well. I have tons of question's.

is it possible to over feed him?

he is peeing just fine but how much should he be pooping?

when can I start feeding him real cat food?

is it better to start him on wet or dry food?

I really could use some help and any tips I can get thanx

Are you a foster parent? What kind of shelter would release a kitten that young without giving you all that information. Did you adopt that kitten that young? You either need to contact the shelter to get all that information or go to a wedsite directing you on how to raise and bottle feed a kitten. In about a week you should be able to try to feed mush which is water/formula soaked dry kitten food. You shouldn't have to help a kitten this old to go to the bathroom but if you feel she/he isn't going enough (peeing and pooping atleast 3-4 times a day) definatly do it. I can not believe a shelter would release a kitten this young to someone with out all this information.

I was there when the lady who brought him in came so they didn't even put him in the system or anything the only thing they told me was about how to make him go to the bathroom and that he needed to be bottle fed. They seemed to just want to gt rid of him. I have found some helpful websites though and have gotten a lot of help from people who have done this before. He is doing pretty good though, he's gained about 5 or 6 ounces but he isn't going to the bathroom on his own. He seems pretty healthy but to be on the safe side I was going to take him to the vet when I get paid.

thanks
