I just learned that the Bengal kitten I am about to aquire has parents who are father and daughter. I have read (and the breeder says) that inbreeding is more common in new breeds like the Bengal but I am concerned that the level of inbreeding is so high. Should I be concerned about my kitten having health problems or is inbreeding/linebreeding as common as the breeder says it is?

inbreeding is common but this doesn't mean it is good for example had rabbits once and i thought that one of them was a boyy so i put him in with his father but as it turned out the boy was actually a girl and by the time i had noticed the first litter there was a second litter and though the first litter was ok the second litter had infected cloudy eyes when they were born but i gave the whole family away when the second litter were only 4 weeks old so i dont know what the long term health problems were but my advice is the breeder is lying to you and inbreeding is not right and i'm not sure the kitten will have health problems just make sure yu stay in contact with the breeder incase anything goes wrong and see if they r licensed

I would be concerned about the inbreeding factor. Is your breeder TICA and ACFA registered? Do not buy from a breeder who isn't! Breeders who are TICA and ACFA registered abide by rules that have been put in place to protect the sanctity of the breed.
