My little budgerigar (named Olive) has a bit of a problem lately: there is a small growth on her nose. Her cere just seems to be expanding or growing outwards. One of her nostrils is also partly blocked. I have an appointment with the vet in a few days, but I would like to know if anyone else has seen this problem in a bird, if it is serious, and what to do about it. I've looked online, but haven't really found anything. Please help...

I'm not sure exactly where to direct you, but in your subject bar maybe you can put something like, "Beak deformities on birds in it and see what you get.

Be sure the vet is avian certified. Regular vets don't tend to have the specialized knowledge birds need when it comes to their care.

Wish you luck with Little Olive.

My best advice is to take a little bit of cooking oil and rub on your birds nose, just a little bit, is this growth kinda scabby looking? If so its mites and easily treated. Rub the oil on the feek as well. Repeat in a coupe of days and I bet it will be problem solved. Just clean the cage with hot soapy water and thing should return to normal. A vet will just subscribe a medicine with a oil base and it will cost you less to just use cooking oil or baby oil will do as well. Good luck and would love to know how it goes.
