Can Newspapers Be Used As Bedding?
Can old newspapers be used for bedding material for my gerbils?
Newspapers are not a sensible choice of bedding for any small pets. Not only do they contain potentially toxic chemicals in the ink residues, but increasingly they contain ingredients other than paper which can cause intestinal blockages etc. This applies even more to magazines – the ‘glossy’ finish can be highly toxic when ingested. There is of course also the risk of staples not being noticed and getting into your pet’s cage.
